Bloonix-Server

Installation

The Installation of the Bloonix-Server is very simple.

# Debian / Ubuntu
apt-get install bloonix-server
# Red Hat / CentOS / Fedora
yum install bloonix-server
# SuSE / SLES
zypper install bloonix-server

The configuration file is

/etc/bloonix/server/main.conf

and is well documented.

To start/stop/restart the server just call

/etc/init.d/bloonix-server start
# oder
systemctl start bloonix-server.service

Attention: before you start the Bloonix-Server it's important that the database schema and the Elasticsearch template were created. The installation of both is done in the installation guide of the Bloonix-WebGUI. The parameter to connect to the database should already be configured in /etc/bloonix/database/main.conf.

SSL Certificates

The communication between the server and the agent can be secured via SSL. After the initial installation of the Bloonix-Server a SSL keypair is created and stored under /etc/bloonix/server/pki.

We recommend to use a valid SSL certificate over a self signed certificate, otherwise you have to turn of the ssl certificate validation for each Bloonix agent.

Start the Bloonix server

/etc/init.d/bloonix-server start
# oder
systemctl start bloonix-server.service

The Bloonix-Service-Checker

With the installation of the Bloonix server a service called Service-Checker is also installed. This service is responsible to check hosts and services that runs on a timeout. This means that if, for example, the CPU utilisation of a server was not checked since several minutes any more because an agent has fallen out or even the server himself on which an agent runs, the Bloonix-Service-Checker will act as a pseudo agent and deliver a critical status for the service. It is very important that the Bloonix-Service-Checker is also configured and started.

The configuration file is:

/etc/bloonix/srvchk/main.conf

Please configure the section server.

Start the service checker with

/etc/init.d/bloonix-srvchk start
# oder
systemctl start bloonix-srvchk.service
